What is your favorite summer activity? I often think about being on the water and out in nature. I enjoy stargazing on a clear night. Summertime is also a time for activities like graduation parties, traveling and social gatherings, kids’ sports. Summertime also can lead to unpredictable schedules and fluctuations which is why so often the focus of conversation in the clinic revolves around “how to stay healthy”.
Tip 1- Meal prep
One of the most important tips I can give is to think about what your plans are and where you might be going and prepare healthy options to eat on the go. One of my favorites during the summer is grapes. They are flavorful and juicy. Carrot sticks and hummus are also a great choice, filling and crunchy. Cooler bags make traveling more manageable.
Tip 2- Move your body
The weather is optimal to get outdoors and move your body. Some cities even have outdoor workout equipment to allow for fun outdoor lifting experiences. I enjoy morning and evening walks, but also enjoy getting out on the water paddleboarding. Pick your favorite activities and just get moving!
Tip 3- Hydrate
While engaging in outdoor activities we often need to remind one another to hydrate. It is important to aim for at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water daily, but more if you are sweating. These are a few tips to help keep you and your loved ones happy and healthy during the summer months.
